Then we start calling them sellouts and fakers and we "lose our respect" for them etc. Now the TV shows can either put presenters in who aren't car guys and we call "yah boo, they aren't real car guys, they are just TV presenters" or they pay in some real guys from the industry to make the shows and lend a name. Either the "he doesn't know his car has been taken for a rebuild / back in a week" cack or the put on hystrionics of "lets see who can have the most ridicuously OTT argument this week" but its all just for the TV. For why? Because a genuine car-guy show will have too limited an audience so they have to fake them. Now this is a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation. I've read a couple of magazine features on cars built by Boyd's place in the show and they say it was nothing like what was shown on TV.įor whatever reasons either business or ego the two guys are playing parts on a TV show.
